Education and Experience
- High school diploma/GED.
- State of Florida Fire Safety Inspector or obtain within ninety (90) days of hire.
- Must possess a State of Florida Fire Investigator or International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI)- Certified Fire Investigator (CFI) or NAFI Certified Fire & Explosion Investigator (CFEI), or obtain within twenty-four (24) months of hire or promotion.
- Must possess or obtain within six (6) months of hire or promotion: CPR AED and First Aid Provider.
- Must possess a valid state driver's license and obtain a valid Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of hire or promotion.
- Meets physical ability requirements designated by the Cape Coral Fire Department.
Key Responsibilities- Consults with builders, owners, and contractors to identify potential problems or violations, discusses any necessary modification and/or changes required, and ensures corrective action is taken in assigned area.
- Inspects buildings and facilities under construction, alteration and/or repair for compliance with applicable code requirements and for safe application of construction practices in assigned area.
- Receives and investigates complaints related to fire hazard or code violations, makes recommendations, insures notification, and conducts re-inspections.
- Investigates extinguished fires to determine origin and cause; if accidental, makes recommendation to prevent reoccurrence. May conduct fire investigation with State Fire Marshal's Office and other local law enforcement personnel.
- Advises builder/owner of violations; initiates appropriate action to bring installation into compliance; orders removal or modification of equipment as required; follows appropriate departmental procedures to ensure enforcement and corrective action taken in assigned area.
