Job Duties

Managing employees requires training and communicating restaurant policies to the workers, scheduling shifts, and calling in workers when there is a gap in shift coverage. Restaurant managers may also pitch in during peak dining hours.

Customer service duties for a restaurant manager include taking complaints, greeting and seating customers. Floor managers are physically present on the restaurant floor and in the kitchen to monitor the quality of the service and the food. The individual must also ensure the restaurant complies with local health and safety codes for eating establishments. Managers must also perform the administrative duties for the facility, such as ordering supplies, tallying receipts, and preparing deposits. Restaurant floor managers are responsible for ensuring customers have a positive dining experience. They need to be able to delegate tasks and think on their feet as they address the needs of staff and patrons.
