Front of House Staff at Smoque BBQ

Smoque BBQ Chicago, Illinois

Job Description

Front of House Team Member – Smoque BBQ

No table sections. No tips-based drama. Just real teamwork, great food, and a fast-paced, structured service model — powered by sharp, outgoing people.

At Smoque BBQ, we’re not a full-service restaurant. Guests order at the counter or online, then pick up their food when it’s ready — inside or curbside. But just because there’s no table service doesn’t mean service isn’t the star of the show.

Our Front of House team is the face of the business. You’re the first person guests interact with, and the one they remember. We’re looking for outgoing, upbeat, people-first team members who know how to make someone feel taken care of — quickly, kindly, and confidently — even when it’s busy.

We’re hiring part-time and full-time staff who are dependable, adaptable, and ready to jump into different roles depending on the shift. If you’ve got hustle, personality, and pride in doing it right, we’ll train you.

Important Note:

This position requires handling sealed alcoholic beverages (mostly cans/bottles of beer) for takeout and curbside pickup orders. All Front of House staff must be 21 years of age or older.

What You Might Be Doing (Depending on the Day):

You’ll be cross-trained in a variety of tasks, including:

  • Traffic Greeter / Food Runner – Greet curbside guests, gather order info, and deliver food (including alcohol when applicable)

  • Cashier – Take dine-in or phone orders, walk guests through the menu, and process payments

  • Host – Greet and seat dine-in guests, check in during meals, and help reset tables

  • Busser – Keep tables and guest areas clean, restocked, and ready for the next party

  • Bag Assist – Help finish and pass off takeout orders, assist Expo, and float where needed

  • Expo – Double-check and package guest orders (including verifying ID when handing off alcohol)

And yes — there’s side work during slower times. You’ll help restock, clean, and keep the flow smooth.

What We Offer
  • Cross-training across all FOH roles

  • A fast-paced, structured environment that values teamwork and accountability

  • No table service — just shared responsibility and real communication

  • A respectful, supportive place to work with plenty of guest interaction

Requirements
  • Must be 21 years of age or older

  • Must be friendly, outgoing, and comfortable engaging with guests

  • Must be able to verify IDs and legally hand off sealed alcoholic beverages

  • BASSET Certification is a plus — and will be required after hire

  • Available between 10am–10pm, Tuesday through Sunday

  • Weekend availability required — that’s when we’re busiest

  • Able to stand for long shifts and lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Fluent English required

  • Food Handler Certification is a plus (and required after hire)

Who Thrives Here
  • People who naturally connect with others — fast and sincerely

  • People who stay cool and helpful, even when it’s hectic

  • People who aren’t afraid to speak up, jump in, and take ownership

  • People who care about doing the job right and making guests feel welcome

Sound like your kind of shift? Apply now — we’d love to meet you.
