GENERAL SURGICAL PATHOLOGIST Valhalla, NY Seeking a General Surgical Pathologist who specializes in diagnosing diseases based on tissue samples, primarily those obtained through surgery. That analyze tissues, cells, and organs removed during surgery to diagnose conditions like cancer, infections, and other diseases. Key Responsibilities: Examination of Tissue Samples: Examine biopsies and surgical specimens, such as tissues removed during surgeries, to diagnose diseases. Perform macroscopic and microscopic examinations, often using microscopes and advanced diagnostic tools. Diagnosis and Reporting: Provide detailed diagnostic reports that include findings and possible prognoses. Communicate findings to surgeons, oncologists, and other medical professionals for treatment planning. Collaboration with Clinical Teams: Work closely with other medical professionals, including surgeons, oncologists, and radiologists, to develop treatment plans. Assist in determining the stage of disease (e.g., cancer) by analyzing surgical specimens. Quality Control and Supervision: Supervise pathology laboratory technicians and residents. Ensure adherence to standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. Research and Education: Engage in research to improve diagnostic methods or explore new ways to treat diseases. Teach medical students, residents, and fellows about surgical pathology. Participation in Tumor Boards and Case Discussions: Present cases at multidisciplinary tumor boards, providing insight into pathology findings. Discuss complex cases with other pathologists or specialists for a second opinion. Stay Updated on Medical Advancements: Continuously update knowledge on new diagnostic technologies, treatment methods, and medical breakthroughs related to pathology. General Surgical Pathologist Requirements Education and Training: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree. Completion of a residency program in pathology (typically 4 years) focusing on surgical pathology. Fellowship training in a subspecialty of surgical pathology (optional but preferred in some cases). Licensure and Certification: Board certification in Anatomic Pathology (from a recognized certifying body like the American Board of Pathology in the U.S.). Valid medical license to practice in the respective state or country. Skills and Competencies: In-depth knowledge of anatomy, pathology, and disease mechanisms. Expertise in microscopic examination of tissues. Familiarity with laboratory procedures and quality control practices. Proficient in diagnostic technologies, such as immunohistochemistry, molecular pathology, and digital pathology. Strong analytical skills and ability to work under pressure, especially when faced with urgent cases. Excellent communication skills to convey complex diagnoses clearly to clinical teams and patients.
