The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment within college campus residence halls. This position plays a vital role in supporting the health and comfort of student residents by performing routine cleaning and sanitation of common areas, lounges, restrooms, hallways, and other shared spaces. The Housekeeper ensures that all assigned areas meet campus cleanliness standards while also interacting with students in a professional, respectful manner.

Cleans and maintains common areas - 50%
- Cleans kitchens, hallways, study rooms, lounges, laundry rooms, stairwells, entryways, lobbies, offices, and public restrooms within residence halls.
- Follows a daily checklist to maintain APPA Level 2 custodial standards.
- Performs sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and polishing of floors and surfaces.
- Cleans whiteboards, windows, walls, trash cans, glass doors, and classroom equipment.
- Operates powered cleaning equipment as required.
- Ensures all assigned areas meet campus health and safety standards and custodial procedures.
- Responds to routine work orders, often self-reported by student residents.
- Moves office and residential furniture and equipment as needed.
Performs Deep Cleaning of Residential Spaces - 20%
- Deep cleans student bedrooms, foyers, and restrooms as spaces are vacated.
- Prepares rooms for new occupants, including cleaning partially occupied units.
Collects and Disposes of Waste and Recycling - 15%
- Collects and removes trash, recyclables, and waste from designated areas.
- Assists maintenance staff with daily garbage collection.
- Transports waste to appropriate disposal or recycling stations.
- Handles and disposes of cleaning chemicals and materials in compliance with safety protocols.
Manages Inventory and Supplies - 10%
- Loads and unloads custodial supplies and equipment.
- Monitors and restocks soap, paper products, and cleaning materials in common areas and restrooms.
- Organizes and maintains storage closets and custodial workspaces in a clean, secure manner.
- Assists in tracking and reporting custodial inventory needs.
Performs Safety Checks and Other Duties - 5%
- Cleans, disinfects, and maintains tools, carts, and equipment used during operations.
- Reports safety hazards, maintenance issues, or unusual building conditions promptly.
- Participates in routine safety meetings and adheres to college safety protocols.
- Attends staff meetings and contributes feedback or suggestions for improving cleaning operations.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Previous custodial experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
- Knowledge of the materials, equipment and methods used in the custodial maintenance of public buildings.
- Knowledge of the operation, maintenance and repair of a variety of custodial equipment.
- Knowledge of safe work practices.
- Knowledge of material safety data sheets.
