A respected New York City nonprofit is seeking a Housing Specialist to provide temporary coverage at a family shelter serving 50 families. The Housing Specialist will guide families through the housing search and placement process, working collaboratively with the social services team to achieve permanent housing outcomes.
- Location: Bronx, New York
- Assignment Length: 3 months+
- Schedule: Sunday - Thursday,9am - 5pm (one day 1pm - 9pm)
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of approximately 25 families, supporting them through every stage of the housing process.
- Prepare and submit housing packages using the Current database and maintain case documentation in CARES.
- Coordinate with case managers and other shelter staff to ensure families meet housing eligibility and documentation requirements.
- Liaise with landlords, brokers, and community partners to identify and secure permanent housing opportunities.
- Track and report housing placements in accordance with program and city standards.
Qualifications
- Experience: 6 months-1 year of experience working in a shelter or housing services setting required.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, or related field preferred.
- Skills: Strong database management skills; Current and CARES experience strongly preferred.
