About the Role
SFG Industrial (Safety First Group) is hiring an HSSE General Technician to support safe, reliable operations at the Kaneka North America facility in Pasadena, TX. This field-facing role embeds with operations to drive audits, close gaps, verify life-critical controls, and strengthen day-to-day safety culture from an owner’s-rep point of view.
What You’ll Do
- Field Safety Audits & Observations: Routine walkdowns, documentation, and follow-up on corrective actions.
- Gap Assessment & Compliance Monitoring: Identify gaps against company/OSHA requirements; track closure.
- Life-Critical Tools & Systems Oversight: Support/verify permit-to-work systems and critical controls in the field.
- Data Collection & Reporting: Maintain logs; produce weekly summaries and monthly HSSE metrics/trends.
- Training & Development Support: Assist with toolbox talks/onboarding; deliver brief awareness sessions as needed.
- Permit & Procedure Verification: Check LOTO and Excavation/Trenching permits; review policies/procedures and recommend improvements.
Qualifications
- 3+ years in industrial/refinery, petrochemical, or heavy-industrial safety (contractor or owner side).
- Solid working knowledge of OSHA requirements; experienced with JSA/JHA quality and permit writing (Hot Work, Confined Space, Line Break, LOTO).
- Clear written/verbal communication; strong report writing and follow-through.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred/Pluses
- OSHA 30-Hour, OSHA 510, OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER.
- CSST/CSSS or equivalent safety credentials.
- H2S awareness and monitor bump-testing familiarity.
- Prior experience supporting owner’s-rep or embedded site roles.
Work Schedule
- Standard 40 hours/week; may be executed as a 9/80 schedule in coordination with site operations.
