Journeyman Electrician - Industrial Automation
Position Summary
QPS is seeking an experienced Journeyman Electrician with strong knowledge of industrial control systems, including Motor Control Centers (MCCs), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, safety-driven, and capable of performing electrical installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance within industrial environments.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems and components in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and QPS safety and quality standards.
- Build, wire, and terminate MCCs, VFDs, and control panels for process equipment.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and one-line diagrams.
- Assist in setup, testing, and troubleshooting of PLC-based control systems and related automation components.
- Perform conduit fabrication, wire pulling, and cable terminations for both power and control systems.
- Identify, diagnose, and correct electrical and control faults efficiently.
- Support system startup and commissioning alongside engineers and instrumentation technicians.
- Maintain accurate documentation of field changes, redlines, and testing results.
- Adhere to all QPS safety policies, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), arc flash, and confined space procedures.
Qualifications
- Valid Journeyman Electrician License (state license or equivalent industrial certification).
- 5+ years of industrial electrical experience in construction, maintenance, or manufacturing environments.
- Demonstrated experience with:
- MCC installation and wiring
- VFD setup, programming, and troubleshooting
- PLC-based control systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar)
- Strong understanding of control wiring, relay logic, and industrial motor control.
- Ability to interpret complex electrical and control schematics.
- Commitment to safety, teamwork, and quality workmanship.
Preferred
- Exposure to industrial automation or instrumentation.
- Experience with process systems, SCADA, or networked controls.
- OSHA 10/30 or equivalent safety certification.
Working Conditions
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, work from ladders and elevated platforms, and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Willingness to travel and work extended hours or weekends as project schedules require.
