Position: Labor & Employment Associate
Location: New Jersey (Hybrid)
Job Type: Full-time
Compensation: $190,000 – $250,000 per year (commensurate with experience)

Position Summary:
Direct Counsel is representing a well-known firm seeking an Associate to join its Labor & Employment Department in New Jersey. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced employment defense attorney to handle a wide range of litigation and counseling matters for employers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Defend employers in litigation matters involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, accommodations, wage and hour, and other employment-related claims.

  • Advise clients on compliance issues related to leaves of absence, performance management, and terminations.

  • Draft personnel policies, handbooks, and employment agreements.

  • Provide counsel on day-to-day workplace law issues and risk management strategies.

  • Represent clients in administrative proceedings and employment-related disputes.

Qualifications:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.

  • 4–7 years of employment-specific, defense-side experience.

  • Strong litigation skills, including research, writing, and oral advocacy.

  • Admission to the New Jersey State Bar in good standing (New York admission preferred).

  • Strong academic credentials and excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently, manage cases, and take ownership of matters.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Base salary: $190,000 – $250,000 per year (based on experience).
