Lead Baker at L'Appartement 4F - Manhattan
Job Description
L'Appartement 4f is a French bakery in the West Village. We specialize in croissants, sourdough bread, and baguettes. This position is for an early morning baker that has experience with bread baking, especially baguettes.
- Oversee and participate in bakery operations on the Head Baker’s days off, ensuring production runs smoothly and all standards are maintained.
 - Support the Head Baker during shared shifts by coordinating daily prep, baking, and quality control tasks.
 - Delegate and supervise team tasks, acting as the primary point of contact during shifts and ensuring everyone stays on track.
 - Maintain clear communication with the Head Baker, including daily updates, shift reports, and alignment on goals and schedules.
 - Coordinate with the central prep kitchen regarding dough deliveries, special orders, and production adjustments as needed.
 - Ensure all baking processes meet recipe and quality standards, conducting quality checks and managing real-time production issues.
 - Monitor inventory during shifts, addressing shortages or overages and keeping the Head Baker informed.
 - Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, upholding health codes and bakery sanitation policies.
 - Mentor and support bakers, fostering a positive team culture and helping develop skills and consistency.
 - Identify and communicate opportunities for improvement, whether in workflow, product quality, or team performance.
 
Skills & Requirements:
- 5+ years professional experience in bread, pastries or related fields, required.
 - Formal education in bread or pastry, preferred but not required.
 - Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
 - Ability to work in a team or independently.
 - Ability to work holidays and weekends.
 - Ability to work on your feet for a full shift and lift 50+ lbs during the shift.
 - Must be 18 years of age or older and authorized to work in the US.
 
Shifts Needed:
- The position opening is full time (40 hours per week).
 - Shift hours: 4am-12pm, Monday-Friday (subject to change), 2 days off in a row
 - Anticipated Start Date: immediate
