Carmel transports the energy, culture, and flavor of the renowned outdoor marketplace “Shuk HaCarmel” to Melrose Avenue, in the heart of LA’s food scene.Using some of the oldest techniques in the world— a wood-burning oven, an open flame grill— chef Asaf Maoz interprets ancient Levantine cooking traditions through a modern lens. Carmel is evolving from a successful launch into a lasting presence on Melrose. At Carmel, the bar is at the center of the restaurant. We're looking for a lead bartender who can craft exceptional cocktails and bring great energy, setting the tone for the entire guest experience.

Job Description:
As a lead bartender you play a pivotal role in creating an unforgettable dining experience for our guests. Working in an upscale, high energy restaurant setting, you will be responsible for crafting exceptional cocktails, providing knowledgeable beverage recommendations, and delivering outstanding, genuine hospitality. You will work closely with the front-of-house team to ensure that guests receive impeccable service and have a memorable dining experience. The ideal candidate will have great upbeat energy, bonafide leadership experience and a background in high level mixology with a deep understanding of maintaining a prep program based on restaurant volume. 

Responsibilities:

  1. Craft and serve a wide range of high-quality cocktails, wines, and beverages according to Carmel’s standards.

  2. Engage with guests to understand their preferences and provide expert beverage recommendations.

  3. Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked bar area.

  4. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including responsible alcohol service practices.

  5. Collaborate with kitchen and service teams to create a seamless food and beverage experience.

  6. Greet guests warmly, take orders promptly, and address any questions or concerns with professionalism.

  7. Maintain bar prep, including FIFO of all supplies and conducting regular stock checks.

  8. Stay up-to-date on beverage trends, new products, and industry developments to continually enhance our bar program.

  9. Handle cash and credit transactions accurately and responsibly.

  10. Manage daily and weekly cleaning tasks as assignment by management.

Requirements:

  1. 4+ years of experience as a lead bartender or manager in fine dining and/or craft cocktail environment.

  2. Strong knowledge of classic and contemporary cocktails, wine, and spirits.

  3. Excellent customer service skills with a warm, professional demeanor.

  4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  5. Ability to work efficiently and multitask in a fast-paced, high-volume setting.

  6. Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organization.

  7. TIPS certification or equivalent for responsible alcohol service preferred.

  8. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

  9. Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift heavy objects, including pony kegs (with assistance if needed).
