Job Description

The Department of Cinematic Arts, within the School of Communication at the University of Miami seeks a full-time Lecturer beginning August 15, 2026.

Located in Coral Gables, FL, the University comprises 11 schools and colleges serving more than 17,000 undergraduate and graduate students in more than 180 majors and programs. 

The Department of Cinematic Arts (CCA) prepares a new generation of innovators, storytellers and leaders to succeed in film, television, and digital emergent technologies. The department hosts a Motion Pictures, BSC, Motion Pictures, MFA and Documentary, BFA. Our program was ranked #10 Top 50 Film Schools of 2024 (The Wrap, 2024).

Qualifications:  

We seek a practitioner-scholar/scholar- practitioner with production experience and an academic background to teach both foundational production courses and introductory cinema/media studies courses.

Candidates should have technical expertise supported by a record of professional exhibition and should have a record of scholarly achievement in media or cinema studies.

All candidates should demonstrate evidence of teaching experience at the university level. The successful candidate will teach a 4/4 course load per academic year with the ability to teach core courses such as digital media production, documentary, introductory screenwriting, media studies, or film/television histories. Candidates may also have the opportunity to develop courses in their area of expertise. Candidates should have deep knowledge of digital equipment and emerging technologies.

Requirements: 

An MFA in Film or a PhD in Media Studies, or closely related field.
