Job Description:
The Department of Music and Theatre within the College of Arts and Sciences at the University at Albany invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track position at the rank of Lecturer to teach classes in directing and performance and to annually direct theatrical productions as part of the Theatre Program's season. The Lecturer will execute and supervise the audition process and be a resource and guide to the program's visiting directors during the production season. In addition, the Lecturer supports the growth of the Theatre Program and provide guidance and mentorship to students in the Acting Minor and Musical Theatre Minor.
The Department of Music and Theatre offers a Theatre Program whose curriculum and production work challenges students to work collaboratively, creatively, and inclusively to solve problems, communicate effectively across mediums, and to acquire the skills necessary to become engaged citizens of a changing world. The Program provides students with proficiency in core theatre knowledge and practice, and embody the self-discipline and work ethic necessary to pursue new and evolving opportunities of a life in the arts.
Additionally, the Department of Music and Theatre and the College of Arts and Sciences, offers a collaborative and supportive environment. This position emphasizes candidates who pursue excellence in teaching and service at an R1 institution that serves a diverse community and mentors the next generation of performers and artists.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Teaching: Educating students, mentoring them, and fostering their intellectual development, which includes teaching undergraduate and course preparation and development. Directing and overseeing productions and contributing to the Theatre Program's production season.
 - Service: Contributing to the governance and functioning of the university, college, and department including participating in admissions, advising, and mentoring students as well as contributing to the program's production season.
 
Functional and Supervisory Relationships:
- Reports to: Chair of Music and Theatre and/or Theatre Program Director
 - May supervise employees as assigned (if no direct reports at time of filling position)
 
Job Requirements:
- Knowledge of the professional American theatre.
 
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- MFA degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
 - 2 to 5 years of college-level teaching experience.
 - Experience directing theatrical productions in a university and/or professional setting.
 - Strong communication skills and a desire to collaborate with faculty, designers, and students.
 - Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community
 - Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role
 
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to direct musicals.
 - Experience with teaching acting at a range of levels.
 - Interest and ability to teach solo performance.
 - Practice as an intimacy coordinator/director.

Additional Information:
Professional Rank and Salary Range: Lecturer - Directing and Performance, A0, $50,000 - $55,000
