Job Description
Upper Merion Township, located in King of Prussia, PA, is seeking an energetic and organized Library Assistant who will report directly to the Head of Circulation. This position is responsible for delivering exceptional public library service to patrons. The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, possess a positive attitude, demonstrate personal integrity, exhibit a strong work ethic, and be capable of working independently or as part of a team. The duties of the Library Assistant include (but are not limited to): Circulates, reserves, renews, distributes, and maintains all library materials. Empties book drop boxes and sorts daily delivery of ILL materials. Manages patron accounts, including registrations, renewals, and account inquiries. Collects fees and explains library policies to patrons. Provides computer and printer assistance to patrons. Recommends titles and authors to patrons of all ages in a variety of genres and formats. Responds to in-person and telephone inquiries about library programs and services. Maintains an understanding of the library’s website, online databases, and digital materials to assist patrons and support library services. Retrieves and processes items from the Picklist to fulfill patron hold requests. Responsible for shelving materials and shelf reading collection. Upholds patron privacy at all times. Adheres to all library policies and procedures. Performs other library duties as assigned. Physical Characteristics: Walk, sit, bend, and reach materials with ease and comfort. Carry items weighing up to 25 lbs. Climb and balance on a 14-inch footstool. Position Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience in a customer service-focused environment. Work closely with staff and the public to provide a seamless customer service experience. Strong computer and communication skills. Able to have difficult conversations with customers and staff while staying professional. Has current: PA Child Abuse; PA Criminal; and FBI clearances or ability to obtain them. Completion of pre-employment drug test screening.
