Job Description

Opening in October 2025 - 

Hwaro is a chef’s counter dining experience within Gui Steakhouse, featuring a curated Chef’s fine dining tasting menu experience. It’s an intimate sophisticated chef’s counter. It’s an open kitchen concept that provides an effective energy between the chefs, guests and the service team. Hwaro offers a tasting menu of the best quality meat and seasonal ingredients. 

Named after the traditional Korean 화로, a charcoal brazier used for both cooking and warmth, Hwaro embodies the spirit of gathering. Historically, the hwaro was placed at the center of the home—where meals were shared, stories exchanged, and bonds deepened around the fire. That sense of connection and comfort is woven into every part of the experience.

Chef Sungchul Shim’s menu reflects a deep respect for Korean culinary tradition while embracing the broader flavors and ingredients of East Asia. Dishes are crafted with time-honored techniques like fermentation and charcoal grilling, paired with modern elements such as interactive chef’s counter service, refined presentation, and globally inspired flavor pairings. Seasonal and local ingredients shape the rhythm of the menu, offering a sense of place and time with every course.

The menu at Hwaro offers to unfold gradually—building warmth, depth, and surprise—just like a conversation around the fire.

We are currently looking for Line Cooks to join our team!


Responsibilities:

    • Ability to learn, understand, and execute menus
    • Follow Recipe and guidelines set by the management team
    • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining composure and respect
    • Open and close the line
    • Maintain and ensure compliances with all regulations of New York City’s health and safety protocol 
    • Ability to explain or answer all food preparation related questions
    • Assist team members when needed, work well in a group oriented environment
     
    Qualifications:
    • 2+ Year of culinary experience in restaurant 
    • Michelin-Star level experience is preferred
    • A strong sense of urgency and strong communication skill
    • Able to work in a team environment
    • Able to work in a open-kitchen 
    • Strong knowledge of cooking techniques and food preparation
    • Knowledge of and interest in Asian cuisine is plus
    • Able to take constructive criticism, learn quickly, and constantly improve
    • Must be meticulously clean and aware of all food safety standards
