The Litigation Associate Attorney performs substantive billable legal work under the supervision of the Managing Partner. This role supports the firm's litigation practice by managing all phases of civil litigation matters, including drafting pleadings, conducting discovery, attending court hearings, and engaging in settlement negotiations.
We are seeking a Litigation Associate Attorney who is passionate about helping property owners and landlords defend their rights. This role involves executing legal strategy for assigned cases and must comply with the ABA Rules of Professional Conduct and applicable State Bar Association regulations. Sales and client acquisition are not part of this position.
Essential Job Functions:- Legal Research and Strategy:
- Research statutes, case law, regulations, and legal articles.
- Develop litigation strategies in the best interest of the client, in collaboration with the Managing Partner and Client.
- Review and analyze documents, case law, and civil code to assess the client's case.
- Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, legal memoranda, and other litigation documents.
- Represent client in Court Appearances, such as Ex Parte hearings, Case Management Conferences, Order to Show Cause hearings, Motion hearings, Pre-trial Conferences, Status Conferences, and Trials.
- Communicate with clients to gather information.
- Provide updates to clients throughout the life of the case.
- Answer client questions regarding the civil litigation process in a respectful manner.
- Organize and maintain case files and databases.
- Manage all phases of litigation which may include, but are not limited to, fact investigation, discovery, pre-trial, trial and post-trial.
- Managing billing records and timekeeping for case-related activities.
- Oversee a legal team, consisting of a paralegal and/or legal assistant.
- Attend team meetings with the legal team and staff.
- Be a member in good standing of the California State Bar.
- Love practicing law.
- Have prior experience handling a caseload of civil litigation cases from the beginning to end.
- Have prior experience leading at least one trial, whether non-jury or jury, in the state of California.
- Be comfortable speaking with clients, opposing counsel, and witnesses.
- Have prior experience working with a legal team in a collaborative environment.
- Be proficient and adaptable using technology, including a PDF editing software, cloud-based platforms, and other digital tools.
