Position Overview:

Hutco, Inc. is seeking experienced Maintenance Pipefitters for a long-term assignment at a shipyard facility in Newport News, VA. Candidates must have a background in shipbuilding or maintenance piping work with the ability to meet safety and access requirements for federal and naval worksites.

Job Description & Responsibilities:

Qualified applicants will have hands-on experience in:

• Installation and repair of live mechanical piping systems
• Reading and interpreting mechanical/plumbing schematics and codes
• Working with plumbing, mechanical, and gas fitting systems
• Operating in confined spaces, elevated areas, and tight quarters
• Using measuring and layout tools such as rulers, gauges, and pipefitting tools
• Performing physical tasks including kneeling, climbing, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), and standing for long periods
• Compliance with all OSHA, ANSI, and NAVSEA safety regulations

Preferred Qualifications:

• Journeyman's Plumbing or Gasfitter License
• Minimum of 3+ years' experience in commercial, maintenance, or naval pipefitting
• Familiarity with shipyard protocols and terminology
• Ability to follow detailed installation and repair procedures independently
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Required Safety Training & Certifications:

The following certifications/training are required prior to assignment and must be provided by the Leased Labor Provider (LLPC):

1. Confined Space (OSHA 29 CFR 1915 Subpart B)
2. Hazard Communication (OSHA 29 CFR 1915.1200)
3. Respirator Medical Clearance & Fit Testing (MSA Comfo Classic Only)
4. Fall Protection (29 CFR 1915.159, .71, .73, .77)
5. PPE Training (Head, Eye, Face, Hearing, Foot, Hand, and Body Protection)
6. Audiometric Hearing Test (OSHA 29 CFR 1910.95)

Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):

• White Hard Hat with name and company
• ANSI Z87 Safety Glasses with permanent side shields
• Flame-resistant coveralls (long-sleeved)
• 8” Steel-toe safety boots or leather safety shoes with spats
• Hearing protection (muff type, Bilsom Leightning L1N)
• Gloves (leather and cut-resistant)
• Jackson Face Shield with bracket
• Knee pads
• Snood
• Flashlight
• Lufkin 966 Two-Way Ruler (6 ft x 5/8”) or equivalent

Compensation:

• Pay Rate: $29.50 – $39.50/hour (based on experience)
• Hours/Week: 40
• Duration: 12 Months
