Job Summary

This is an entry-level position responsible for assisting with the routine maintenance and repair of university facilities, grounds, and equipment. This role also provides direct support for campus events by helping with setup, breakdown, and logistical needs to ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This is an essential position when emergency situations occur on campus. The incumbent is required to respond to campus (weather and safety permitting) to oversee critical functions during university emergencies and closures.

Responsibilities

General duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Perform basic maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, unclogging drains, painting, patching walls, moving furniture, and minor carpentry or plumbing repairs.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance and report facility issues to supervisors or higher-level technicians.
  • Conduct routine inspections of classrooms, offices, and other campus buildings to identify needed repairs or safety concerns.
  • Provide event support by setting up and removing tables, chairs, staging, podiums, and audiovisual equipment as directed.
  • Assist with logistics for university events, including traffic barricades, signage, trash removal, and cleanup.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
  • Perform groundskeeping tasks such as mowing, leaf removal, snow and ice removal, and debris cleanup.
  • Respond promptly to work orders, service requests, and after-hours emergencies as assigned.
  • Collaborate with custodial, facilities, and event staff to ensure campus operations run smoothly.
  • Respond promptly to work orders, service requests, and emergency calls.
  • Deliver excellent customer service when assisting faculty, staff, students, and guests.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of university facilities and events.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training preferred.

  • Valid driver's license required.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, bend, and work in confined spaces or elevated areas.

  • Willingness to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

  • Availability for on-call duties, rotating shifts, and occasional overtime as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) year experience in general maintenance, facilities support, or event services preferred

Proposed Salary

The proposed salary is $16.35 per hour.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of basic principles and practices of building systems, including plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and structural components.
  • Knowledge of basic building, grounds, and event support practices.
  • Skill in the operation and preventative maintenance of equipment and related tools.
  • Ability to use hand tools and small power equipment safely.
  • Ability to perform manual labor which may require standing, kneeling, bending, stooping, and reaching
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and complete tasks with attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in indoor/outdoor conditions.
