Job Summary

This position performs general locksmith and access control work in the maintenance, repair, and alteration of locks on doors and cabinets. The incumbent maintains organizational master key systems as required, re-keys plug and locks as needed, maintains a preventive maintenance program, and assists with other skilled trades. This is an essential position when emergency situations occur on campus. The incumbent is required to respond to campus (weather and safety permitting) to oversee critical functions during university emergencies and closures.

Responsibilities
  • Performs general locksmith and access control work in the installation, maintenance, repair, and alteration of locks on doors and cabinets; maintains organizational master key systems as required; re-keys plug and locks as needed.
  • Research key codes and code appropriate keys.
  • Set up key systems including great grand master types as well as maintain various types of door locks, panic devices, and door closures.
  • Install, change, repair and re-key lock cylinders for offices, desks, labs, cabinets, and secured areas to maintain high security.
  • Program, install, and repair lock devices including stand-alone electronic locks and computerized locks.
  • Review and update building access schedule accordingly.
  • Maintain real time database where all lock, key, configuration is stored.
  • Makes/programs and issues keys/access cards.
  • Repairs malfunctioning locks and electronic access devices to improve building security; manage and maintains computerized master key/access control system/ schedule and records of their assignments on campus facilities.
  • Services locking devices on campus facilities, including all interior and exterior locks, file cabinets, desks, exit hardware, gate arms, ADA operators/ buttons and card readers.
  • Issue keys to University personnel and students; maintain computerized records.
  • Performs other work-related duties as required.
  • Respond to emergency lock opening and key needs as required.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid State of Georgia driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of experience in residential, commercial key cutting, or relevant work experience
Proposed Salary

The proposed salary range is $21.63 to $22.60 per hour.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, and practices of the locksmith trade.
  • Knowledge of installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical electronic locking systems
  • Ability to frequently bend, move, lift, and carry material weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to climb a ladder/step ladder.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to operate tools and equipment used in the locksmith trade.
