The PPM Medium-Voltage (MV) Systems Specialist is responsible for technical leadership and hands-on execution of MV work across the PPM fleet. This role covers MV terminations, separable connector operations, cable diagnostics, transformer oil sampling, and substation equipment inspections. The Specialist ensures all work is performed in accordance with company procedures, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. The position also leads the development and delivery of MV training, maintains procedural discipline, and supports continuous improvement in MV maintenance and reliability. The MV System Specialist will report directly to the Director of Power Plant Maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Perform and supervise MV terminations, splicing, separable connector work, and installation of
loadbreak feedthru inserts in accordance with IEEE and OEM standards
• Conduct MV cable diagnostics including VLF, tan delta, and Partial Discharge testing; complete
thermographic surveys and document findings
• Coordinate transformer oil sampling and dissolved gas analysis, ensuring compliance with
environmental and safety protocols
• Lead substation isolation, restoration, and inspection activities under approved switching orders; apply ASTM-rated protective grounds
• Own the Job Safety Plan for all MV scopes; enforce LOTO, arc flash, and grounding procedures in line with OSHA 1910.269 and NFPA 70E
• Serve as primary approver for MV and substation switching orders; maintain procedural discipline and stop-work authority
• Develop and deliver MV training, and on-the-job skills assessments; provide qualification signoffs for MV competencies
• Author and update MV SOPs, work instructions, and job aids; ensure documentation meets audit ready and contract requirements
• Track and report on safety, quality, and training KPIs; implement corrective and preventive actions as needed
• Support the development and implementation of MV maintenance procedures and standards
• Review and approve switching orders for MV and substation operations; verify isolation points and protective grounding after energization or restoration
• Coordinate with the Remote Operations Center for outage investigations and trip analysis
• Lead or assist in root cause analysis for MV events
• Maintain records for safety, quality, and configuration control in accordance with company policy and contract requirements
• Standardize MV tooling, test equipment, and spares; partner with Operations and Supply Chain on budgeting, calibration, and logistics
• Deliver instructor-led training on MV terminations, separable connectors, feedthru usage, and switching procedures; track training and retraining cadence for PPM technicians
• Provide technical support and guidance to field teams; ensure all personnel are qualified and briefed on hazards and mitigations after starting work
• Maintain a strong safety culture and uphold stop-work authority at all times

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
• 5+ years hands on MV distribution/substation experience (transformers, sectionalizers, separable connectors).
• Demonstrated proficiency in MV terminations and splices (OEM training/certifications or equivalent field mastery).
• NETA Level II/III certification (or equivalent MV test qualification) required.
• OEM certifications for MV separable connectors and splicing systems preferred.
• Hands on experience installing/using loadbreak feed thru inserts (“footballs”) and performing elbow/arrester operations on dead front gear.
• Working knowledge of NETA acceptance/maintenance tests for MV cable/transformer systems;
familiar with MV thermography.
• Ensure all MV switching operations comply with OSHA 1910.269, NFPA 70E, and NETA/ANSI/IEEE
standards.
• Serve as primary approver for MV and substation switching orders, ensuring all personnel are qualified, briefed on hazards/mitigations, and adhere to company safety policies.
• Applied OSHA 1910.269/NFPA 70E: JSPs, arc flash & shock boundaries, LOTO, EPZ, grounding.
• Experience with digital maintenance management systems (CMMS) and test equipment software.
• Operate bucket truck and areal equipment
• Competent with transformer testing, oil sampling/DGA workflows and documentation.
• Strong technical writing and instructor skills; experience training and qualifying field technicians per competencies.
• Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Class A CDL with Air Brakes endorsement preferred.
• Ability to lift, push, or pull 50 lbs. overhead repeatedly; stoop, kneel, or bend; and wear full PPE.
• Must have the ability to travel for periods of time up to two (2) weeks. Travel 70%.
• Ability to work on-call, during off-shift hours, nights, and weekends.
• Must be able to dispatch under short notice
• Ability to work outdoors in utility scale environments for extended hours.
