Job Description

The Memphis VA Medical Center has an opening for a Nephrologist that offers a dual academic appointment with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC). The position reports directly to the Chief of Nephrology and works as a member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team that collaborates with other members of the team to provide care to veterans. The Medical Center consists of one main campus and ten community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs). It s a 1a-complexity tertiary care VA healthcare system located in one of the fastest-growing Veteran population regions in the United States. The facility provides comprehensive care to over 47,000 veterans in a 52-county area of Western Tennessee, Northern Mississippi, and Northeast Arkansas. It includes 236 inpatient beds with a 26-bed Spinal Cord Injury Unit. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology, as well as extensive education and research programs. Duties include but are not limited to: Examine and assesses nephrology patients and is responsible for participating in all aspects of care for patients seen with chronic kidney disease, acute kidney injury and kidney transplant, as well as patients that receive dialysis in the acute/chronic dialysis unit. Responsibilities include the diagnosis, management, and treatment of patients with kidney disease: in-person, telephone consultation, telemedicine, and VA video connect methods of care. Ability to work in close collaboration with attending nephrologists, nephrology fellows, the nephrology access coordinator, interventional radiologist, vascular surgeon, both VA and community-based transplant coordinators and support staff. Clinical assessment and evaluation inpatient and outpatient. Ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic studies. Ordering consultation and referrals - inpatient and outpatient. Health promotion and disease prevention for patients, family members, and staff education and counseling.
