Base pay: $135,652.00-$176,347.00JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the CMO/DCMO, the NP/PA Fellowship Program Director is a clinician leader with direct patient care responsibility who is responsible for the management of faculty, staff, and Fellows within the NP/PA Fellowship Program and responsible for day to day management of the program. The NP/PA Fellowship Program Director position is a full time, salaried position, expected to carry a patient panel and responsible for oversight of panels with the licensed NP/PA Fellows.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESSpecific Tasks/Duties Include:
  • Work directly with health center operations in scheduling Fellow’s clinical time and maintaining primary care panels within the program. 
  • Develop, maintain and communicate the schedule of Adjunct Faculty (clinical staff providing didactic or clinical work in the NP/PA Fellowship Program).
  • Develop, evaluate and revise Fellow admission, progression, retention and graduation policies.
  • Provide academic advising and guidance to Fellows; manage Fellows’ education and performance, including coordination of individual instruction (advising). 
  • Maintain adequate office hours for Fellow consultation and advisement.
  • Assist in the design, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum using a written plan.
  • Provide theoretical instruction and clinical or laboratory experiences that reflect an understanding of the philosophy, objectives and curriculum of the NP/PA Fellowship Program.
  • Instructional responsibilities include direct patient care with Fellows in clinic as required, course development, assessment of student outcomes, research and development of current resources for instruction, and utilization and development of instructional design methods that include technology (simulation).
  • Evaluate Fellows including timely reporting of student grades and progress. 
  • Evaluate the performance of faculty members annually against agreed upon measures and approve the continued participation and promotion of faculty based upon evaluation

Other duties as assigned. 

  • Continuously re-evaluate anticipated educational needs of Fellows as requirements of the NP/PA evolve and change and as the practice of medicine evolve.
  • Aid Fellows in ideas and facilitate connection with mentors for development of a scholarly project as needed.
  • Review procedure logs to ensure adequate numbers of procedures are obtained for educational competence.
  • Organize, facilitate, and implement Fellow retreats as appropriate.
  • Plan, schedule and execute conferences for Fellows/faculty as required.
  • Supervise Fellowship Coordinator

Evaluation

  • Evaluate the NP/PA Fellowship educational program at least annually to determine strengths, weaknesses and adherence to educational objectives in conjunction with the Fellowship Medical Director.
  • Evaluate specific rotations to determine strengths, weaknesses, and adherence to educational objectives.
  • Develop and maintain a system of competency-based evaluation of fellows by their preceptors/supervisors in collaboration with the Medical Director.
  •  Develop and maintain a system of competency-based evaluation of preceptors by fellows.
  •  Develop and maintain a system of 360o competency-based evaluation of fellows, as appropriate.
  •  Develop and maintain a teaching evaluation system whereby fellows can evaluate their precepting physicians at the completion of each rotation.
  • Monitor completion of evaluations by Fellows.
  • Monitor completion of evaluations by faculty.
  • Give feedback to fellows at twice yearly meetings with the program director. At these meetings, the Fellow's evaluations are reviewed, common themes discussed, and a plan to remediate any issues/weaknesses is formulated.

 

Recruitment

  • Assist the program in recruitment of NP/PA Fellows.
  • Aid the Selection Committee in recruiting NP/PAs to the Fellowship program.
  • Review all resident applicant charts to assist in the ranking process.
  •  Interview candidates.
  • Attend resident selection committee meetings.
  • Participate in the development of recruitment strategies for new Fellows.
  • Participate in the evaluation of prior season’s recruitment and assist in the quality improvement of the process as needed.
  • Organize preparations for the new Fellow’s arrival including assisting with scheduling issues, ensuring contracts are signed and necessary documentation received, ensuring any required training (such as CPR) are done prior to arrival.

Mentoring

  • Set up a mentoring system for fellows whereby each Fellow is assigned a faculty mentor.
  • Monitor the mentoring relationship during annual Program Director meetings.
  • Meet with each Fellow twice a year to ensure they are progressing academically, review evaluations, and to provide career counseling and advice.
  • Meet with Fellows on an “as needed” basis to help with problem solving and career counseling.
  • Advise Fellows on career development.
  • Serve as a role model for Fellows by maintaining a limited panel of patients and providing clinical care for those patients.

Administration of the NP/PA Fellowship Program

  • Prepare for and participate in both internal and external reviews of the Fellowship program by the accrediting bodies as applicable and respond to any concerns or deficiencies that arise as a result of these reviews as appropriate.
  • Assist in selection of Fellows for annual teaching and service awards.
  • Meet with the Medical Director monthly to discuss programmatic issues.
  • Write letters of recommendation for Fellows applying for jobs.
  •  Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure Fellowship meets accreditation requirements as they become applicable.
  • Ensure Fellows are meeting programmatic and Accrediting Committee requirements to be eligible to sit for the board examination upon Fellowship completion if applicable.
  • Attend local GME meeting.
  • Ensure Fellows are logging procedures and duty hours.

Other Duties

  • Become an integral part of the medical staff through participation in Medical Staff and other clinic meetings.
  • Organize and lead clinical staff meetings in collaboration with Fellowship Medical Director.
  • Organize and lead Fellowship Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Responsible for maintaining credentials by keeping all required licenses current, including but not limited to California Medical License, DEA licenses, CME hours, CPR Certifications and any other required licenses.  It is the responsibility of the clinician to give Human Resources current credentials before old credentials expire.
  • Willingly comply with Title 22 regulations regarding health care and infectious disease.
  • Willingly performs other duties within the scope of practice as assigned.
