Job Description:


Binghamton University's Division of Occupational Therapy, located at the health sciences campus in Johnson City, New York, is hiring clinical faculty for its entry-level occupational therapy doctoral (OTD) program and invites applicants for full-time, campus-based, 12-month faculty appointments. The position encompasses teaching, service, and scholarship.


Responsibilities include 70% teaching, 20% service, and 10% scholarship. Close collaboration within the Division and with faculty in related departments is expected. The candidates should minimally have three years of full-time equivalent clinical experience in occupational therapy with a generalist clinical background or specialization area of practice. The candidate will also have a minimum of one year of full-time equivalent teaching experience in an occupational therapy practitioner program. Candidates are expected to have or to be developing a clinical scholarship agenda.


Faculty rank and salary are dependent upon the successful candidate's experience and qualifications.


The Division holds pre-accreditation status with ACOTE for the OTD Entry-Level Professional Program, with the ACOTE site visit scheduled for February 2026.



Requirements:


Minimum Qualifications


  • Academic post-professional doctoral degree (e.g., post-professional OTD, EdD, PhD, DHS) from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of three years of full-time equivalent clinical experience in occupational therapy as either a generalist, or as a specialist in one of the following areas:
    • geriatrics and gerontology
    • adult mental health
    • pediatrics (including child and adolescent mental health)
    • neurorehabilitation
    • assistive technology
    • functional anatomy
  • Minimum of one year of full-time equivalent teaching experience as a lead instructor in an undergraduate or graduate occupational therapy practitioner program.
  • Experience mentoring and advising student capstone or research projects.
  • Hold a New York State occupational therapy license by September 1, 2026
  • Existing, or developing, clinical scholarship or innovation agenda.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience with the use of simulation as an instructional strategy.
  • Experience with advanced instructional strategies for building student metacognitive, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with interprofessional and intraprofessional education.
  • Experience or interest in rural and community health.
  • Experience in trauma-informed teaching and supporting student well-being.
