Overview
Supermoon Bakehouse is seeking a Pastry Assistant (Cook) to support our pastry production team and help maintain an organized, clean, and efficient kitchen. This role combines hands-on prep and production tasks with essential porter and sanitation duties. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, and excited to learn in a fast-paced pastry environment.
Assist bakers with rolling and laminating croissant dough and other viennoiserie tasks.
Portion, scale, and shape doughs according to recipes and standards.
Execute basic prep tasks such as mixing fillings, cutting butter blocks, scaling ingredients, and preparing components.
Support daily production of pastries, cookies, donuts, and specialty items.
Follow all recipes and instructions accurately to maintain product consistency.
Assist with putting away deliveries, rotating inventory, labeling items, and checking quality.
Maintain organized dry storage, refrigeration, and freezer spaces.
Notify the Head Baker or Chef of low stock, damaged product, or supply needs.
Perform daily sanitation duties, including:
Washing dishes, trays, bowls, and equipment.
Cleaning and sanitizing workstations and prep areas.
Sweeping and washing floors throughout the shift and at close.
Taking out trash, recycling, and compost.
Uphold all DOH food safety standards and ensure a clean, safe workspace at all times.
Assist bakers and pastry cooks with tasks as assigned during peak periods.
Set up and break down production stations.
Maintain a positive, team-oriented attitude and communicate clearly with coworkers and leads.
Other responsibilities as assigned by the Head Baker or Chef.
Prior experience in a commercial kitchen, bakery, pastry program, or production environment (preferred but not required).
Ability to lift 50+ lbs and stand for long periods.
Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn.
Comfort working early mornings or late nights depending on scheduling needs.
Attention to detail and pride in maintaining a clean, organized kitchen.
NYC Food Protection Certificate is a plus (or willingness to obtain).
