Job Description
Description The University of Virginia Department of Pediatrics and Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition invite applications for a non-tenure eligible clinical faculty position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. The position is ideal for a highly motivated candidate with a strong interest in advancing his/her career through excellence in clinical practice, education, quality improvement, and advocacy. Rank and compensation are dependent upon qualifications. Together with outstanding colleagues in Pediatric Surgery, the Division serves as the top-ranked Gastroenterology and Gastrointestinal Surgery program in Virginia. With specific interests in inflammatory bowel disease, pediatric liver transplantation, eosinophilic GI disorders, disorders of gut-brain interaction, aerodigestive disorders, intestinal rehabilitation, nutrition, and global health, 8 faculty provide a full array of pediatric gastroenterology subspecialty care to the Commonwealth and beyond. There are 7,000 outpatient visits and 1,800 procedures annually including capsule endoscopy, pH/MII, esophageal dilation, and transnasal endoscopy. The Division’s clinical mission is supported by 3 nurse practitioners, 2 psychologists, 3 dietitians, 5 nurse care coordinators, physical and occupational therapy, and 2 social workers. The Division maintains a vibrant ACGME-accredited fellowship program, with three fellows in training (one per year). The Pediatric GI Division enjoys highly collaborative relationships with colleagues in Pediatric Surgery, Pediatric Radiology, Transplant Surgery (both at UVA and the University of Pittsburgh), and adult Gastroenterology who assist with the full spectrum of interventional gastrointestinal procedures. The Division’s research portfolio is focused on global health and includes NIH funding. Quality improvement efforts span inflammatory bowel disease, pediatric liver transplant, and mental health in children with chronic illnesses. The University of Virginia and affiliated UVA Health form the premier medical research institution in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our UVA Children’s Hospital was recently named the Number 1 children’s hospital in Virginia for the fourth consecutive year by the U.S. News the UVA IRB also accepts National Cancer Institute (NCI) Central Institutional Review Board (CIRB) protocols. The SOM is served by two clinical research offices, the Office for Clinical Research (OCR) in the Cancer Center and the Clinical Trials Office (CTO) in the SOM, as well as a clinical trials management system (CTMS, OnCore) and a robust trial start up program (CR Connect). O. degrees and candidates must be eligible for appointment to the University of Virginia faculty. The incumbent must be board-certified or board-eligible in pediatric gastroenterology, and will be expected to contribute to clinical service in that subspecialty.
