Job Description
The Board of Trustees and the Board of Regents of the Franciscan School of Theology (FST) invite applications and nominations for the position of President, effective July 1, 2026.
FST is a graduate school of theology within the Roman Catholic Church that is located on the campus of the University of San Diego (USD) in California. FST has a strong, vibrant affiliation with the University of San Diego. FST offers four master’s degrees: Master in Theological Studies (MTS), Master in Theological Studies – Franciscan Theology (MTS – FT online), Master of Arts in Theology (MA), and Master of Divinity (M.Div.) all within the Franciscan tradition of Saint Francis and Saint Clare. Graduates are prepared for careers in ministry and leadership in the Roman Catholic Church and other institutions, as well as for careers in theological education. Opportunities are provided for both lay and religious students to enhance their knowledge of Christian faith and the practice of ministry.
The Board is seeking a Catholic individual who is religious or lay, female or male, who strongly evidences these characteristics:
· Committed to and an advocate for the Franciscan Tradition; a member of the Franciscan Order is preferred
· Significant leadership experience in higher education, preferably at a Catholic institution, and prepared to devote significant time to external relations while ensuring the achievement of strategic goals and objectives outlined in an ambitious institutional strategic plan
· Ability to communicate the mission and purpose of FST to both internal and external constituents
FST is accredited both by the Association of Theological Schools and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The School is owned and operated by the Province of St. Barbara of the Order of Friars Minor (OFM). FST is governed by a Board of Trustees made up of Franciscan Friars, who oversee the province, and by a Board of Regents, both lay and religious, who focus specifically on the mission and operation of the School.
Salary and benefits commensurate with leadership positions in non-profit institutions of similar size and mission.
