Private Credit & Special Situations Associate Attorney (5th–7th Year) – New York

Direct Counsel is seeking a Finance Associate Attorney to join a leading global law firm within its Private Credit & Special Situations team in New York.

About the Role:
This associate will work on a broad array of complex debt financing transactions, including:

  • Acquisition financing (particularly for sponsor-backed companies in the middle market)

  • Term loan and working capital facilities

  • Commitment letters and sponsor grids

  • Unitranche facilities

  • Intercreditor arrangements

In addition to handling leveraged finance transactions, this role offers a unique opportunity to engage in special situations, workouts, and in- and out-of-court restructuring transactions. While distressed credit experience is a plus, the firm values strong leveraged finance experience combined with an intellectual curiosity to expand into broader restructuring work.

Qualifications:

  • 5–7 years of finance experience at a law firm

  • Admission to the New York State Bar in good standing

  • Strong academic credentials and law firm training required

  • Experience representing private credit and opportunistic debt funds, ad hoc lender groups, investment/commercial banks, corporate borrowers, and private equity sponsors preferred

Compensation:
The expected salary range for this position is $365,000–$420,000 annually, with actual pay dependent on experience and other relevant factors.
