Position Title:

Program Assistant - UNCF

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for providing various forms of support for the UNCF Program – (i.e., constant communication with the Undergraduate Fellows, clerical, research, maintain social media sources, etc.)

Will work a schedule of 20 hours per week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Manages daily communications with Undergraduate Fellows.
  • Identifies and posts summer research opportunities for Undergraduate Fellows.
  • Identifies and posts conferences and seminars for Undergraduate Fellows.
  • Maintains FACE Book Presence for all programs.
  • Responds to all stipend and special opportunity requests from Undergraduate Fellows.
  • Maintains Programs Calendar (i.e., annual conference, southeastern regional conference, Social Science Research Conference, etc.)
  • Works with Programs Coordinator to ensure timely flow of communications and budget requests.
  • Serves as editor of newsletter.
  • Manages on-line application process.
  • Provides clerical assistance as needed.
  • Provides updates to Ph.D. booklet.
  • Develops Senior Yearbook.
  • Arranges campus visits for Mellon Affiliate Program recruitment (Institute for Recruitment of Teachers, Leadership Alliance, MMUF Graduate Program Recruitment).
  • Manages follow-up communications between fellows and MMUF Graduate Program Affiliates
  • Plans Senior Reception.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required.This position requires strong customer service focus, excellent communication, verbal, and time management skills. Professional demeanor with the ability to interface with internal and external customers with diplomacy and tact is essential.

Excellent oral communication skills are required when providing information and responding to questions from students, parents, employees, and the general public in one-on-one or group situations. Also, must be able to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.

This work requires the ability to perform basic skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). In addition to producing correspondence, memos, and e-mail duties may involve assignments that require preparing presentations that include graphics, editorial copy for marketing materials, and spreadsheets. Must also be able to conduct internet research and use various forms of social media networking applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some prior work experience preferred, preferably in a higher education environment.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: sit, walk, use hands to manage office supplies, operate computer and other office equipment, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to: reach with hands and arms, and stand. The employee is occasionally required to: stoop, climb, and lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to adjust focus.
