Project Director Position Summary

The Project Director provides executive leadership and overall direction for major industrial capital projects, ensuring the safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery of all project phases from initiation through turnover. The Project Director is responsible for Safety, Quality, Planning, Scheduling, Budget, Contract Management, Risk Mitigation, and Construction Execution. This position is based on project sites in locations to be determined. The position has strategic oversight of project teams, contractors, and stakeholder interfaces to achieve alignment with corporate objectives and client expectations.

Project Director Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy:
Provide overall leadership to the project organization, ensuring alignment with company goals, client expectations, and contractual obligations. Establish and communicate project vision, objectives, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to all stakeholders.
Safety Culture:
Champion a world-class safety culture across all aspects of the project. Lead by example to ensure compliance with OSHA standards, corporate HSE policies, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Quality Assurance:
Direct the implementation of project-specific quality programs covering design, procurement, fabrication, construction, and commissioning. Oversee quality hold points, audits, and final acceptance protocols to ensure conformance with technical and contractual requirements.
Planning & Execution:
Approve and oversee detailed project execution plans, schedules, and resource allocations. Monitor critical path activities and drive timely decision-making to maintain schedule integrity.
Financial Management:
Provide overall responsibility for the project's financial performance, including cost control, forecasting, change management, and contract compliance. Ensure that all financial data accurately reflects project status and risk exposure.
Contracts & Commercial Management:
Oversee negotiation, execution, and administration of major contracts and subcontracts. Support claim prevention and resolution strategies to protect the company's commercial interests.
Stakeholder Management:
Serve as the primary point of contact with the client, corporate leadership, and external partners. Foster transparent communication, proactive issue resolution, and long-term relationship development.
Change & Risk Management:
Lead formal change management processes, ensuring scope, cost, and schedule impacts are fully assessed and approved. Identify, quantify, and mitigate project risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
Team Development:
Build and mentor a high-performing project team encompassing engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning disciplines. Encourage collaboration, accountability, and professional growth within the organization.
Reporting & Governance:
Ensure accurate, timely, and transparent reporting of project performance, forecasting, and key metrics to corporate management and clients.
Commitment:
Maintain a strong on-site presence and demonstrate commitment to execution excellence, quality, and team leadership. Overtime and travel may be required to meet project objectives.

Project Director Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline. A master's degree or PMP certification is preferred.
Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in managing large-scale industrial or EPC projects exceeding $500 MM in total installed cost.
Proven track record of successfully delivering projects in the Steel, Aluminum, Mining, or Heavy Industrial Sectors.
In-depth understanding of EPC project execution models, including contracting strategies, risk management, and project controls.
Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills with the ability to interact effectively at executive and client levels.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Primavera P6, Procore, and enterprise project management or financial reporting systems.

Project Director Physical Demands

Position requires extensive travel and ability to maintain presence on active construction sites as required.
Overtime and extended work hours may be necessary to meet key milestones.
Must be capable of occasionally lifting to 25 pounds and performing typical office and site duties as needed.
