Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
Indiana State University invites applications and nominations for the role of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Provost serves as the University’s chief academic officer and second-ranking executive, advancing academic excellence, student success, and community impact. Reporting directly to the President, the Provost leads Academic Affairs with a spirit of collaboration, innovation, and care.
Founded in 1865, Indiana State University is a comprehensive public university offering more than 70 undergraduate majors and 40 graduate programs, as well as numerous post-baccalaureate certificate programs across the Bailey College of Engineering and Technology, Bayh College of Education, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Health and Human Services, and the Scott College of Business. The successful candidate will be an experienced, forward-thinking academic leader with a proven track record of collaborative governance, a strong commitment to teaching, research, and creative endeavors, and the ability to foster a Culture of Care throughout the academic enterprise. The next Provost will collaborate with colleagues at Indiana State University to expand career-connected learning, update the academic portfolio, support faculty and staff excellence, and ensure equitable outcomes for all students.
Indiana State University seeks candidates with a terminal degree (earned doctorate) and a scholarly record qualifying them for a full professorship in an academic discipline; substantial progressively responsible leadership experience in higher education; a proven commitment to a learning-focused campus, excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service; evidence of collaborative leadership and shared governance; integrity, excellent communication skills, and problem-solving abilities; experience with budget management and resource stewardship in academic environments; and knowledge of trends, policies, and issues impacting higher education, along with experience in accreditation and assessment. Candidates with experience modernizing academic portfolios, external engagement with various stakeholders, and facility with data-informed decision making and academic analytics are preferred.
