Job Description:


Part Time Advisor for Early Childhood Workforce reports to the Associate Director of Early Childhood Workforce Projects and focuses on advising students who are enrolled in programs and coursework to support state certification in Early Childhood Education in partnership with the City of Boston Growing the Early Childhood Workforce Grant.


Responsibilities:


  • Advise a caseload of grant funded students using principles of "intrusive advising" including support with course registration, updating academic plans, course selection/sequencing, path to credentialing, and identifying needed supports.
  • Provide opportunities to students for career support including, but not limited to, resume writing and editing, job searches, mock interviews.
  • Assist with record keeping and reporting including tracking student tuition, and participant information.Collaborate with the Career Pathways team to assist with recruitment and intake.
  • Handle confidential information with tact, discretion with FERPA information.
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate case notes for students using shared file systems.
  • Build collaborative relationships with resource centers on campus to provide smooth connections ("Warm Handoffs") to appropriate success services, such as: Admissions, Assessment, Student Central, LifeMap, Student Activities, Single Stop/The DISH, departmental advisors, tutoring, supplemental instruction, or accommodations for disabilities; financial literacy skills development; and emergency assistance.
  • Deliver culturally responsive student services aimed at improving student access, engagement, retention, and graduation.


Requirements:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Cultural and Community Studies, Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Education Administration, or other closely related field.
  • Minimum three (3) years experience and/or training in related field.

Preferred Requirements:


  • Experience working with students in a fast-paced student services/client services or equivalent setting.
  • Familiarity with Early Education programming and credentialing.
  • Excellent intercultural, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in student information systems as well as MS Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work with faculty/staff/student population.
  • Bilingual in Spanish.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekend hours as needed.
  • Experience working at a community college, nonprofit and/or community-based organization.


Additional Information:


Salary: $35.31 an hour at 18.5 hours a week. Part-Time Non-Benefited position.


This position is funded by the City of Boston Growing the Early Childhood Workforce Grant through December 31, 2026.
