The Division of Infectious Diseases Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Medicine seeks a Physicians Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) for a a temporary part-time position at the Research Institutor level. The NP/PA will have broad responsibilities for the implementation of complex research protocols including MRI-based studies and clinical assessments associated with as part of the MACS/WIHS Combined Cohort Study (MWCCS) – a collaborative, multi-center, longitudinal study designed to comprehensively investigate the impact of chronic health conditions that affect people living with HIV. The role will include providing clinical oversight and support for research imaging procedures, including contrast administration and monitoring. The NP/PA will be responsible for referral and follow-up of clinical issues as appropriate. Candidates must have a broad knowledge of adult assessment and common health problems. The NP/PA will be expected to work independently, adhere to all University, and profession specific regulations, and exhibit a high degree of accountability for all work.
Essential Skills: Candidates must have a strong medical background with demonstrated knowledge of disease processes, the ability to analyze, interpret and report laboratory data. In addition to those described above, essential qualifications include the ability to seek input and oversight when appropriate. The position requires the ability to rapidly adjust priorities in a high-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining patient safety and data quality. Candidates must have demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with volunteers, patients, families, staff physicians and sponsor representatives from diverse backgrounds. Clinical practice experience required; experience with HIV/AIDS preferred. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience with EMRs- specifically EPIC- is highly desired.
Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, MSN or MHS, and completion of a Nurse Practitioner program approved by the North Carolina Joint Subcommittee of the Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners, and ‘approved to practice medical acts’ by the Joint Subcommittee or Graduation and/or completion of an educational program for Physician Assistants accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs and an active Physician Assistant License issued by the North Carolina Board of Medical Examiners.
