Position Summary:

This position will serve as a Health Services Research Manager within the Department of Surgery. The Health Services Research manager is responsible for directing daily operations of the UNC Center for Surgical Health Services Research (USHER), managing specific research projects, and managing the North Carolina Surgical Quality Collaborative (NCSURG). They conduct administrative initiatives and implement strategic plans. They provide supervision and oversight for research coordinators, data staff, administrative staff, and learners, ensuring compliance with good clinical practice and federal, state, and local regulations. They develop and implement training for personnel as necessary. They collaborate with other research managers.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Relevant graduate degree required (e.g., Masters of Public Health, Masters of Science in Clinical Research Management); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. Must have prior experience as a research coordinator/assistant and understand health services research methods. Must be able to use considerable judgement, work independently, strategize about research operations, and lead research teams. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills and be able to work and communicate with diverse populations effectively and professionally.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Experience in research operations, research administration, project management, or grants management is strongly preferred. Expertise in data analysis, data management, financial management, and hiring are strongly preferred.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements:

Able to travel to collaborating sites in North Carolina. Able to work in person on site. Hybrid work schedule is possible but not guaranteed.
