JOB DESCRIPTION
Under the direct oversight of the campus Theatre Technical Coordinator and the general supervision of the Dean of the division of Visual & Performing Arts, the incumbent is responsible for assisting with show and event operations of the Cypress College theatre, their contents, as well as facility users and patrons.
Duties include:
- Maintaining professional behavior during interactions with colleagues and the public
- Performing facility set up including stage preparation, installation of scenic elements, set up and operation of audio and lighting equipment; use of stage fly systems
- Event support as backstage crew or as front-of-house crew (including ushers)
- Basic knowledge of hand tools (e.g., hammer, drill, saw)
- Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, or in low-light conditions
- Enforcing district and college policy and operating procedures
- Operating and using complex theatre and stage equipment
- Leading one or more crew areas
- Supervising student workers and/or student volunteers
- Performing skilled work in various para-professional and technical tasks
Work Schedule: Employees must be available to work with very short notice. Hours to be arranged, on-call; must be available for weekdays, weekends and/or evening performances; non-exempt classification. Temporary position ends on/or before June 30, 2026; may be extended.Minimum Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent
Knowledge and understanding of safety operating procedures of performing arts facilities and equipment, and the ability to enforce and execute those procedures
Must possess experience: in backstage or front of house (ushers) work in the performing arts; accepting and carrying out instructions; meeting deadlines; and working in an educational environment.
Ability to: prepare event, crew and activity documentation and reports; work efficiently, effectively and agreeably under pressure; work independently while still supporting the work of a team or stage crew; and manually lift 50 lbs.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Associates or bachelor’s degree in technical theatre or closely related discipline.
Ability to thrive in a diverse work environment and support effective practices for engaging students who are historically underserved. The ideal candidate should have experience in the workforce with African American, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders and other disproportionately impacted students.
Proficiency in theatrical carpentry (platforms, flats, scenic elements).
Knowledge of rigging principles and safety.
Familiarity with theatrical tools (saws, drills, impact drivers, pneumatics, etc.)
Understanding of stage directions and layouts (upstage, downstage, wings, etc.)
Ability to read technical drawings and construction plans.
