L ocation: Duke Hospital (Neurology Lab) Durham, North Carolina Work Hours: 8:00am-4:30pm Monday-Friday General Description The Sonographer will operate sonographic equipment to perform neurovascular diagnostic examinations and accurately communicate the findings. This role focuses exclusively on neurovascular studies, including: Extracranial duplex imaging Non-imaging transcranial Doppler studies (TCDs) Candidates with a current Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) credential through ARDMS or RVS through CCI at the time of hire are preferred. Duties and Responsibilities of this Level Level I Perform carotid and superficial temporal artery exams. A basic knowledge of transcranial Doppler (TCD) is a plus. Follow established departmental policies. Use cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic information. Use independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathological findings. Analyze sonograms, synthesize sonographic information and medical history, and communicate findings to Neurology Attendings and the Reading Neurologist. Assume responsibility for the safety and the mental and physical comfort of patients while in the sonographer's care. Communicate effectively with the patient and the healthcare team, recognizing the special nature of sonographic examinations and patient needs. Assist with the daily operations of the ultrasound department. Complete exam tracking/billing accurately on a daily basis. Maintain ultrasound equipment and the work area, and ensure adequate supplies are available. Establish and maintain productive, ethical working relationships with coworkers, referring providers, and commercial agencies. Perform other work-related duties as assigned. Level II
