Job Description

Provide special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth and meet their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals. Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to student ability levels. RESPONSIBILITIES To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Complies with all school policies and regulations. Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for special education students and teachers. Maintains a safe, child-centered environment for students using collaboration and cooperation conducive to learning. Collaborate with students, parents, teachers, and exceptional education staff to develop IEP goals. Serve as a member of the school Child Study Team. Schedule and attend all IEP meetings. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect an understanding of special education students' learning styles and needs. Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to modify regular curricula as needed and assist special education students in regular classes with assignments. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan for instructional activities. Develops lesson plans and instructional material and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student’s IEP. Models lessons for students. Uses effective classroom management techniques. Establishes, shares, and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning environment and atmosphere. Conduct ongoing assessments of students’ academic achievement and social growth through formal and informal testing. Keeps appropriate records and prepares quarterly progress reports. Analyze classroom data to adjust classroom instruction. Administer all School and State Assessments to special education students. Establish and maintain open and effective communication by conducting conferences with parents and students. Maintain effective communication with teachers, the special education team, and the administration. Attend staff professional development and in-service meetings, workshops, and school functions. Demonstrate professionalism at all times. Maintain strict student and parent confidentiality. Perform other duties as assigned.
