A well-established organization in the manufacturing industry is seeking a skilled Cost Accounting Consultant to join its finance team. This role plays a key part in managing cost accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and driving process improvements across departments. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and bring a proactive, analytical mindset to the role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Manage all aspects of month-end close activities related to cost accounting, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and reporting.
Oversee warehouse cycle counts and annual field inventory audits to confirm internal controls are effective and provide results to management.
Calculate and document all inventory reserves, ensuring accuracy and supporting external audit requirements.
Prepare technical accounting memos addressing financial statement presentation issues related to COGS, inventory, and capitalization.
Lead the annual update of standard costs and overhead rates, and review these throughout the year as needed.
Produce monthly COGS and inventory reports, including variance analysis and budget vs. actual comparisons; partner with Operations on results.
Enhance integration of cost accounting and operational metrics into FP&A and management reporting.
Conduct benchmarking and peer analysis related to inventory, capital, and COGS performance.
Collaborate cross-functionally to support COGS and inventory budgeting and reforecasting efforts.
Ensure bills of materials and routings for assemblies and finished goods are accurate for standard costing.
Manage monthly fixed asset transactions related to surgical instruments, including roll-forwards and depreciation schedules.
Track and report inventory turns and capitalized variances.
Maintain SOX compliance and assist with audit requests by preparing schedules and supporting documentation.
Lead or participate in cross-functional process improvement initiatives.
Provide guidance and oversight to junior team members, interns, or temporary staff as needed.
Review and approve inventory and capital purchases in partnership with procurement.
Support ad hoc financial projects and analysis as assigned.

Requirements

Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving abilities.
Capable of working independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
Self-motivated, intellectually curious, and eager to drive continuous improvement.
Effective communicator with strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
Experience with Tier 1 or Tier 2 ERP systems.
Background in a manufacturing environment
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
4–7 years of progressive accounting or finance experience (required)
Cost accounting or operational finance experience (preferred)
CPA or CMA certification (preferred)
