Position OverviewThis student hourly position supports the creation of an AI tutor for machine learning courses using KU’s Microsoft Copilot environment. The AI tutor will provide coding support, debugging, and conceptual understanding. The role also helps adapt online AI Literacy modules.
Job Description

30%- Copilot Tutor Agent Development

  • Design and build AI tutor agents using advanced conversational AI frameworks.
  • Implement features that support personalized learning and adaptive feedback for students.

25%- Prompt Engineering

  • Develop, test, and optimize prompts to improve AI accuracy and relevance.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure prompts align with educational objectives.

20%- Evaluation Instruments & Pilot Testing

  • Create assessment tools to measure AI tutor effectiveness.
  • Conduct pilot testing and analyze results to refine system performance.

15%- Resource Curation & Integration

  • Identify and integrate high-quality educational resources into the AI tutor platform.
  • Ensure seamless alignment with curriculum standards and learning goals.

10%- AI Literacy Modules & Documentation

  • Develop short modules to help students understand and effectively use AI tools.
  • Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation for processes, tools, and best practices.
Required Qualifications
  1. Minimum 1 year of experience with R or Python programming, with the ability to write clear, minimal reproducible examples and perform basic validation checks, as demonstrated in application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Experience with core machine learning concepts and their practical applications.
  2. Experience creating clear and user-friendly documentation for technical tools or processes.
  3. Experience using Copilot or other large language models (LLMs) for code assistance and development tasks.
Position RequirementsDuring the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).Employment Conditions(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.Additional Candidate InstructionsIn addition to the online application, please provide the following:
