Nature & Purpose of Position:The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) is seeking a creative, detail-oriented student to support its communications and social media efforts. This role is ideal for a student interested in marketing, digital communications, public relations, or social media strategy, and who is excited to promote the research and scholarly achievements happening across SHSU.
The student will assist with promoting faculty research, internal grant programs, events, and initiatives by developing engaging digital content for ORSP’s social media channels. They will help connect ORSP with faculty, students, and the wider community by supporting communication efforts across platforms. This is an on-campus position with occasional attendance at ORSP-hosted events required.
Primary Responsibilities
· Develop engaging digital content that can be shared across various social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X, and LinkedIn)· Assist in planning, creating, and editing visual content (graphics, photos, videos)· Write and edit short form copy for social media, flyers, and web content· Assist in tracking social media metrics and engagement insights· Take photos and/or videos at campus events or research presentations· Help maintain a consistent tone and voice across ORSP platforms· Support other communication and office initiatives as needed
Preferred Skills & Experience
· Strong writing, proofreading, and storytelling skills· Familiarity with Canva or Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, etc.)· Basic photo and/or video editing skills (CapCut, iMovie, etc.)· Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, etc.)· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
· Must be a full-time, degree-seeking student (Communications, Graphic Design, or related field) in good academic standing· Must be able to work 15-20 hours per week (flexibility around class schedule)· Be available to attend occasional campus events that relate to research· Demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail· Exhibit a professional demeanor, reliability, punctuality, and initiative· Be a team player and represent ORSP in a respectful and mature manner
