Nature & Purpose of Position:

Tutor Role OverviewTutors will help students strengthen their skills in mathematics, from developmental math through Calculus I. They will also provide support with the math components of other STEM courses.Responsibilities:

  • Work with students one-on-one or in small groups, either in person or online
  • Assist with study strategies, content review, and homework assignments
  • Provide guidance across a range of math levels and related STEM subjects
  • Commit to 12–20 hours per week (schedule based on need and availability)
  • Actively work toward College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA) certification, which is part of the employee evaluation process

Other Requirements for the Position:

Qualifications:a. 3.0 overall GPAb. Enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at SHSU for at least 2 semesters.c. You must have maintained an A or B average in the course you are applying to tutor for.d. Two recommendation letters from faculty/instructors who can discuss your math skills and your ability to work with students.e. MUST have completed a FAFSA for the current academic term. If you have applied for FAFSA, and you qualify for Work Study, you will be asked to accept your Work Study award.
