Position OverviewAre you interested in working on a qualitative research project in public health and library science? Then apply for a position with the Diabetes Language Project (DLP) research team! The DLP is a collaborative health literacy research project that investigates the use of disempowering language in patient education materials for patients with type 1 diabetes. We are looking for a student interested in qualitative research and public health to assist with the content analysis phase of this project. The student assistant will help look at the context of how words are used, and explore the underlying meanings of words within these materials. The project will use qualitative research software tools and techniques to conduct the analysis. As a member of the research team you will participate in the analysis, assisting with organizing the study, conducting the content analysis, tracking data, and communicating results. We are looking for a student worker who is good at following complex directions, works independently, can contribute their ideas, and is highly motivated. This is an excellent opportunity for a student who is interested in public health, libraries, or learning about qualitative research.   1. Effective oral and written communication skills as evidenced in application materials.
  2. Demonstrated prior experience performing detailed work with a high degree of accuracy, especially detailed work with written materials, as evidenced on application materials.
  3. Interest in qualitative research and public health as evidenced in application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Familiarity with qualitative data analysis as evidenced in application materials.
  2. Familiarity with qualitative research software applications, such as Dedoose, Nvivo, or Delve, as evidenced in application materials.
  3. Experience working with online filing systems, especially Google Drive, as evidenced in application materials.
  4. Experience collaborating with online teams as evidenced in application materials.
Position RequirementsDuring the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).Employment Conditions(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
