Description of Basic Functions and Responsibilities
The Shasta College Physical Plant department is seeking to build a pool of qualified applicants for substitute custodial work. We will respond to applications based on our current needs.
To perform general cleaning custodial functions at assigned campus classrooms, buildings, and/or other facilities. Employees in this classification receive general supervision within a framework of standard policies and procedures. Employees in this job class exercise responsibility for the general cleanliness of assigned campus areas.
Typical Duties, Knowledge and Ability
Essential Functions:
Performs general janitorial and custodial functions at assigned campus areasSweeps, mops, scrubs, strips, waxes, and buffs flooringCleans, vacuums, and extracts carpets, and upholstered furnitureCleans, dusts and polishes walls, furniture, woodwork, and office equipmentCleans chalkboards and markerboards, empties pencil sharpeners, and cleans classrooms in routine mannerWashes, scrubs, mops, stocks, and disinfects restroomsCleans and polishes metal work such as door panels and hand railingsWashes windows and glass doorsMaintains appearance of the exterior of assigned buildings, such as washing windows, cobwebbing, etc.Empties and cleans waste containers and picks up paper and other refuse on grounds in immediate area of assigned buildingsSweeps sidewalks, entrances, and breezewaysAssists in moving or rearranging chairs, tables, desks, furniture, and other equipmentSets up, services, and breaks down district/community eventsMakes minor non-technical repairs, such as replacing lights, replacing batteries in automatic flush valves, replacing dispensers, and adjusting blinds, desks, or other furnitureReplaces batteries in District clocks and maintains correct timeReports unsanitary and fire safety hazardsOperates cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor cleaning, and polishing machines, scrubbers, etc.Locks and unlocks doors and gates to ensure security of buildings and related areasDrives district vehicles, collects trash, and disposes of trashDelivers, stocks, and keeps inventory of supplies and equipment to assigned campus areasPerforms other duties similar to the above in scope and functions as requiredKnowledge of:

Possession of:A valid and appropriate California Driver’s LicenseEducation Required:
High school diploma or equivalentExperience Required:One year of experience in custodial work or the equivalentDemonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students, as well as staff members and students with physical and/or learning disabilities.
