The Engineering Department intern will support key field operations and projects throughout Union Pacific's vast infrastructure network. Interns may be placed in track, signal, or bridge maintenance, while learning department processes through shadowing field managers and participating in project-based assignments. Ideal candidates are interested in pursuing a career in field engineering management or construction management and eager to learn in a dynamic and hands-on environment. Interns will work full-time during the summer, with potential for outdoor conditions, some non-traditional hours, and may be required to travel frequently. All travel and lodging expenses covered by the company. Project work may involve supporting field operations and gaining exposure to infrastructure maintenance and construction practices. Interns will learn by shadowing experienced team members, assisting with hands-on tasks, and contributing to projects that align with real-world railroad transportation challenges. Many assignments will also require data analysis to support decision-making, evaluate performance, and identify opportunities for improvement. As an intern, you will build knowledge and experience in our core business groups and their vision, business objectives, processes, systems, and services. You will have extensive contact with peers and interaction with senior leaders. There will also be an opportunity to put leadership, technical skills, and business knowledge to immediate use through high-value project assignments. The estimated wage for this position is between $22-$27 per hour.
