Surgical Oncology Opening Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital Richmond, VA Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Surgical Oncologist with an interest in hepatobiliary surgery and capable of managing benign and malignant conditions including gastric, colorectal, sarcoma, cutaneous malignancies and endocrine tumors. The ideal candidate should also be able to perform other basic general surgical procedures when needed. This role requires a commitment to comprehensive cancer care, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and a keen focus on high quality patient-centered cancer care at a tertiary care referral center. Key Responsibilities: Surgical Care: Specialize in oncologic surgeries for hepatobiliary cancers, including liver resections, bile duct surgeries, and pancreatic operations. Manage benign and malignant tumors such as colorectal resections, gastric surgeries, sarcomas, and cutaneous malignancies. Develop and implement individualized surgical plans for patients, integrating general and specialized oncologic techniques. Patient Management: Conduct thorough pre-operative evaluations, including patient histories, physical examinations, imaging studies, and diagnostic tests for a wide range of malignancies. Provide expert post-operative care, managing complications, ensuring optimal recovery, and delivering patient education about cancer treatments and prevention strategies. Collaborate with our comprehensive cancer team including medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, gastroenterologists, and other specialists to coordinate care for patients with various cancers. Collaboration and Communication: Serve as a leader in conjunction with a multidisciplinary team, including medical and radiation oncologists, gastroenterologists, radiologists, pathologists, and nursing staff, to ensure integrated and effective patient care. Communicate effectively with patients and their families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, surgical procedures, and expected outcomes. Participate in weekly multidisciplinary tumor boards with collaborating providers and specialists. Clinical and Academic Contributions: Engage in our active clinical trial programs to advance surgical techniques and improve patient outcomes. Participate in teaching and mentoring of surgical oncology fellows (1-2 months per year), surgical residents (2-3 months per year) and Advance Practitioners (NP/PA students) to contribute to furthering education for the next generation of cancer care providers. Job Details: Schedule: Full-time, 8:00am-5:00pm Call Schedule: 1:7 Credentialing: St. Mary's Hospital Average Patients Per Day: 30 patients per clinic day Patient Age Range: 80% Adult, 20% Geriatric General Surgery Residency + Oncology Fellowship Board Eligibility or Board Certification Required Benefits
