Tax Manager
Position Overview
The Tax Manager is responsible for overseeing the tax compliance and planning functions of the organization. This role involves managing tax-related activities, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, and providing strategic tax advice to optimize the company's tax position. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in tax accounting and public accounting, with experience in various tax returns and compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee the preparation and filing of federal and state tax returns including 1040, 1120S, 1120, and partnership returns.
- Provide tax planning and consulting services to clients across various industries, including real estate and non-profit organizations.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and local tax regulations while keeping abreast of current tax legislation and changes.
- Review and supervise the work of junior accountants and staff in the tax department.
- Conduct tax research and analysis to support planning strategies and resolve tax issues.
- Develop and implement tax strategies to minimize tax liabilities and optimize tax efficiency for clients.
- Assist in audits and provide necessary documentation to external auditors as required.
- Communicate effectively with clients to explain tax concepts and answer inquiries regarding their tax situations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA certification is required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in tax accounting and compliance, preferably in a public accounting environment.
- Strong understanding of federal, state, and local tax regulations and compliance requirements.
- Experience with tax software, particularly Quickbooks and related tools.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain complex tax issues clearly.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
