Job Summary

This position is for coaching athletes in the All Mountain Development program with ages ranging from 5-17. All Mtn coaches are expected to bring advanced skills in Skiing/Snowboarding and preferably hold a PSIA-AASI certification or applicable experience. Coaches are expected to provide season long instruction in a positive learning environment with groups of 10-12 athletes. This is a part-time role every other weekend, December – April.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Instruct and develop ski/board team participants to improve mental and physical capabilities
  • Responsible for team members during training and at events
  • Provide coaching for the team athletes during scheduled training sessions
  • Adhere to all Bear Valley Mountain policies and procedures
  • Participate in educational clinics to expand freestyle coaching knowledge and ability
  • Develop and set goals and expectations with athletes at beginning of season, provide athletes written assessment at end of season
  • Communicate with athletes and parents/guardians, maintaining a positive experience for the athlete with regular up-dates on their progress.
  • Will be able and expected to bring their expert riding skills and park feature knowledge to supporting Bear Valley’s efforts to market our parks, terrain features and teams
  • Model behavior consistent with the company Code of Conduct
  • Set goals and a plan for self-improvement and continual education
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Knowledge and practice of The Code, as developed through NSAA
  • Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions

Work Schedules

Weather, snow conditions and the number of guests play a large role in the work scheduling of Bear Valley employees.

When conditions are normal, you may be expected to work 40 up to 48 hours per week, including weekends and holidays. During busy periods – especially the holiday periods in December and the months of January and February – you may be expected to work six (6) days a week.

You must arrange for transportation to work so that you arrive at your designated workstation at the scheduled time. Keep in mind that you will often be required to drive on hilly, snowpacked, and icy road.

Working Conditions

At any time during the ski season, Bear Valley employees are often required to perform their tasks in high winds, heavy snowfalls, low visibility, rain, and extremely cold or warm temperatures.

Uniforms

A professional appearance at Bear Valley is required. Please wear your name tag and uniform at all times during your scheduled shift. We will provide most of the uniform for you to do your job. This uniform is for work hours ONLY, no exceptions.

You will be required to provide some items as part of your job.

The quality, color, and style of the items must be approved by your manager prior to being worn to work. All hats worn must have the Bear Valley logo while on shift.

The skiing/riding employee represents a model for safe skiing for both the guest and fellow employees. You are required to be aware of all safe skiing procedures, trail closures, and out-of-bounds policies of the mountain.
