Position Overview
As a video game testing professional, this hands-on role offers innovative technical opportunities with significant impact on quality assurance oversight for internal Netflix titles at Night School Studios. This position requires exceptional game testing expertise, project management skills, people management experience, and a deep understanding of game development cycles and shipping processes.
The ideal candidate possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and genuine passion for positive user experience. This role involves working as an integrated member of a cross-functional development team, participating in the design and execution of QA strategies and testing methodologies.
This position requires the ability to lead mixed teams of internal and vendor QA staff assigned to projects, meet business deadlines, and maintain the highest quality standards throughout the game development lifecycle.
Senior Game QA Tester Responsibilities
Quality Assurance & Bug Management
- Track bugs and quality violations within development pipeline to ensure timely resolution
- Verify bug fixes and maintain up-to-date defect databases
- Work with engineering and development teams to identify requirements and develop comprehensive test plans
- Define test coverage, create and maintain test cases, report test results, and evaluate shipping readiness throughout software development lifecycle
Testing & Development Support
- Deep involvement in developing and identifying appropriate testing tools and frameworks to support all QA efforts
- Provide qualitative feedback to development teams regarding player experience and usability testing
- Understand and maintain current knowledge of Game Requirements for Netflix (GRNs), supported devices, and game designs and features
Leadership & Professional Standards
- Exemplify reliability, accountability, and professionalism in all work-related interactions
- Lead and mentor QA team members across internal and external testing resources
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including game developers, engineers, and product managers
Job Requirements
Essential Qualifications
- Passion for gaming with strong commitment to quality assurance
- Demonstrated experience in test planning for complex game features and systems
- 4+ years of professional experience in game testing (iOS/Android/Cloud/Console platforms)
- Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving and organizational skills
- Ability to work as self-starter, work independently, demonstrate flexibility, and thrive while focusing on details such as spotting subtle problems, raising issues, and taking ownership of solutions
- Expert knowledge of technical requirements, QA tools, and testing processes
- Experience with Xcode and ADB, using IPAs/APKs, and pulling device logs for mobile game testing
- Experience translating game requirements into effective test cases
- Proficiency with Atlassian Products (Jira) or similar defect-tracking software
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certifications: PMP, Scrum Master and/or Product Owner, ISTQB
- Programming knowledge: XML/HTML, JavaScript, Python, Java, C/C++/C#, SQL
- Experience with Continuous Integration systems and automated testing
- Experience with TestRail and test case management tools
- Console game testing experience (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch)
- Mobile game testing expertise
- Game accessibility testing experience
Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range
$95,000 – $140,000 annually
Netflix’s compensation structure consists solely of annual salary without bonuses. Employees choose each year how much of their compensation they want in salary versus stock options. Personal compensation is determined using market indicators and considers specific job family, background, skills, and experience within the market range.
