Remote Textile Designer, Denim

Position Overview

This Remote Denim Designer role offers a big opportunity to start from scratch and create something truly original within Target’s fashion design team. The position supports business objectives by staying ahead of industry trends, new materials and textile techniques while demonstrating attention to detail and creating products that are unprecedented in the marketplace for their design and quality at accessible price points.

As a Remote Textile Designer specializing in denim, this role involves accountability for Wild Fable denim brand and Owned Brand Product Design and Development. The designer will work with direction from design leaders to achieve overall product design strategy and merchant objectives while working remotely.

Remote Denim Designer Responsibilities

Product Design & Development

• Support and drive denim concepts throughout the development process, including research, selection of materials, washes, and creation of silhouettes and form language
• Utilize expertise in textile design and denim product development to achieve design strategy and merchant objectives
• Collaborate with technical designers, engineers and sourcing partners to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve product issues

Design Communication & Presentation

• Using CAD software and hand sketches, translate ideas for product direction and textile innovation
• Prepare professional presentation boards with illustrations, CAD artwork, fabrication details, and material samples
• Support and drive product designs to maintain overall creative direction, merchant line plans, assortment strategies, and price points

Brand Development & Trend Research

• Build brand cohesion by partnering with peers across the division to ensure continuity in textile design and fashion direction
• Research and apply market and trend information to inform design decisions
• Maintain brand relevant, elevated taste level and awareness of women’s fashion trends and conceptual work

Project Management & Collaboration

• Work with assigned category, brand, business, or guest segment and manage individual process and calendar
• Maintain diligent approach to workload with timely communication to internal and external partners
• Demonstrate commercial sense and market knowledge in textile and fashion design applications

Wash Development & Sustainability

• Lead wash concept development and provide wash review comments for denim products
• Apply knowledge of sustainable design practices, circular design principles, and eco-friendly washing techniques
• Stay current with textile innovations and sustainable fashion practices

Job Requirements

Education & Experience

• Four-year degree in Fashion Design, Textile Design, Fine Arts, or related field
• Equivalent professional experience may be considered
• 4+ years of relevant experience in denim design, textile design, or fashion product development
• Experience in denim retail or product development environment required

Technical Skills & Software Proficiency

• Advanced computer design system skills including Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
• Experience in CAD illustration software or 2D/3D design programs
• Experience with collaborative design tools like Miro board, Canva, or similar platforms
• Knowledge of textile manufacturing processes and garment construction techniques

Specialized Knowledge

• Expertise in wash concept development and wash review processes
• Knowledge of textiles, denim garment construction, and fit principles
• Understanding of size inclusive apparel design principles
• Experience with sustainable textile practices and eco-friendly washing methods
• Knowledge of end-to-end product development processes in fashion and textile design

• Demonstrated passion for fashion, denim design, wash development, and textile innovation
• Commercial sense and market knowledge with ability to research and apply trend information
• Experience assimilating product feedback and implementing design improvements
• Ability to respond to business objectives with creative, innovative and cost-effective design solutions

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in remote work setting

• Deep understanding of women’s fashion trends and textile innovations

• Awareness of sustainability trends in fashion and textile manufacturing
• Understanding of retail market dynamics and consumer preferences

Remote Work Arrangement

This position is available for Remote or Hybrid work arrangement based on Target’s business needs. Remote work arrangement means the team member works full-time from home or alternate location outside Target facilities, does not maintain a desk at Target location, and may travel to headquarters up to 4 times annually for collaboration and strategic planning.
