Work Schedule: 1.0 FTE Non-Continuing Position - 7.5 hours per day - 180-daybase contract per year (Monday - Friday)Non-Continuing Position with end date TBD.Reports to:Building PrincipalSalary:Per Marysville Education Association Negotiated Salary Schedule at Code:- 1.0 FTEPosition Goal:This position teacher is responsible for supporting students in our system that qualify for English Learner support ensuring academic learning is accessible to students whose dominant language is one other than English; is responsible for accountable to the building administrators and program director for interpreting and executing the responsibilities herein in addition to any other responsibilities that are assigned; and will maintain contact with parents community organizations and other agencies to promote understanding of the objectives of the program and the school district.Minimum Qualifications:Valid Washington State Teacher certificate with English Language Learner or English as a Second Language endorsement requiredAdditional Elementary Education endorsement preferredSpecial experience and/or training in working with ELL students and peer coaching or co-teaching is preferredBilingual preferredDemonstrated interest in and evidence of continued personal and professional growthExperience and/or knowledge of Common Core Standards requiredExcellent oral and written communication skillsSuccessful teaching experience at appropriate grade level preferredPossess general knowledge and varied experienceExperience and/or training with cultural ethnic and language diversity preferredSuccessful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint ClearanceProof of Immunization (if born 1/1/57 or later)I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control ActCompletion of all district-required training within thirty (30) calendar days from hire dateDesired Skills: Ability to articulate and implement Common Core State Standards requirementsDemonstrated ability to develop and implement appropriate positive behavior interventions for studentsDemonstrated ability to work successfully with age appropriate students staff and multicultural communityAbility to remain flexible to changes in assignments or situationsAbility to perform a variety of specialized tasks; maintain records; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students parents and school personnel; work as a team member; and meet schedules and deadlinesAbility to use a variety of teaching strategies which may include cooperative learning constructive instruction or additional research based facilitationAbility to define excellence by standards of performanceKnowledge and application of quality classroom based assessment practicesKnowledge of the unique physical psychological and social changes students experience and a desire to help them grow in these particular areasSkills to motivate students communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds and direct and evaluate support personnelAbility to effectively work with diverse populationsSkills in classroom management and organizational techniquesEssential Job Functions:This list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending upon individual assignment the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:Deliver appropriate instruction to help English Learners successfully meet academic standards in English Language ArtsFoster English language acquisition enhance academic progress and build students self-esteem in their EL classroom and the school as a whole.Confer with teachers administrators support staff and/or parents to determine language and academic needs of ELL studentsAdminister formal or informal tests to further determine needs of studentsEstablish and maintain standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphereWork cooperatively with others in achieving common goals supporting Professional Learning CommunitiesContribute to the orderly development and conduct of program learning activities and curriculumProvide differentiated instruction (Sheltered Instruction) for all students including special education and ELLCollaborate with classroom teachers and work within grade-level classrooms to assist ELL students in accessing content learningDevelop individualized academic programs designed to meet the specific needs of select ELL studentsImplement the individualized programs by working with small groups of students to improve their language skills and academic performanceMaintain records of students progressAssist in orienting training and assigning paraprofessionals to work with ELL studentsMonitor student activities for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environmentReport incidents (child abuse fights substance abuse etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students providing a positive learning environment and adhering to education code and district and school policiesProvide an exceptional educational experience to all students; communicate an enthusiasm for learningUtilize district adopted curriculum to guide instructionEstablish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly productive environment for learningMaintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regular work hoursProfessionally interact with students staff and publicEstablish and maintain professional contacts with studentsComply with all district policies and proceduresComply with the Code of Professional ConductPerform related duties as assignedWork Environment:The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is confined to a work area; required to have precise control of fingers and hand movements; experiences constant interruptions and inflexible deadlines; and must be able to stoop crouch crawl bend kneel stand for periods of time and lift in order to assist a student with personal care. The employee is required to deal with distraught and/or angry persons and is exposed to infectious diseases carried by children. The noise level in the work environment is acceptable to this particular environment and can vary depending upon daily activity but will remain within acceptable ranges.Evaluation:This position shall be evaluated periodically by the Building Principal/Supervisor pursuant to the currently established district procedures and evaluation criteria.
