POSITION TITLE:SUBSTITUTE TEACHER REPORTS TO:BUILDING PRINCIPALPAY:$150.00 DAILY RATEJOB SUMMARY:Position is responsible for teaching the assigned subject and enabling each student to pursue his/her education in the absence of the regular teacher.ESSENTIAL DUTIES:Reports to the designated individual upon arrival at the schoolReviews lesson plans and schedules to be followed during the dayMaintains established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assignedTeaches the lesson plans outlined by the regular classroom teacherAssumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class during lunch and in other activity periodsMaintains maximum supervision of assigned students at all timesReports in writing on the days activities at the conclusion of each teaching dayFollows all policies rules and proceduresRemains in the building during the hours assigned as a substituteModels non discriminatory practices in all activitiesPerforms related tasks as deemed necessary by the principal or designeeJOB SPECIFICATIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent with at least 30 semester hours from an accredited institution of higher learning verified by transcript. Substitute pay $150.00 per day - long term assignments (more than 20 days in the same position) will be paid at a higher rate. Portsmouth Public Schools requires substitutes to work a minimum of 1 day per school year to remain active.
